VENEDIG / VENICE

Ende Juni 2018 war meine Mama bei mir zu Besuch und da ich ein paar Tage frei hatte haben wir uns dazu entschlossen diese in Venedig zu verbringen. Sie war das letzte Mal in ihren Flitterwochen dort, ich aber noch nie. So wirklich geplant haben wir diesen Urlaub nicht, es war eher eine spontane Reise. Zugfahrt für hin, Hotel und einen Rückflug (ich musste am nächsten Tag arbeiten und wollte es bequem haben). Demnach haben wir uns im Vorhinein keine besonderen Aktivitäten oder sonstiges angeschaut. Den Flughafen erreicht man am einfachsten mit einem Bus vom Fährtterminal P.le Roma.

My Mom visited me in Vienna at the End of July 2018, and because I had a few free Days, we decided to travel to Venice and explore the City. She was there once before for her Honeymoon, for me it was to be the first time It was quite spontaneous, so the only things that we planned beforehand was our Hotel and the train and plane tickets. The airport is reached the easiest with a bus from the Station P.le Roma.

Von Wien aus ging es mit dem Nachtzug direkt nach Venedig, die Fahrtzeit war ungefähr 9 Stunden. Wir haben uns für einen Sitzplatz entschieden um Geld zu sparen. Richtig schlafen konnte man aber leider nicht wirklich.

We took the Nighttrain directly from Vienna to Venice. Its about 9 Hours to drive. We just took regular Seats to cut on the costs, but that ment that we did not really sleep at all.

Ganz früh morgens kamen mir dann am Hauptbahnhof Venezia Santa Lucia an und da begrüßte uns schon eine Wahnsinns Aussicht. Hellster Sonnenschein, Wasser, prächtige Gebäude und tausende Menschen. Ich war am Anfang echt ein bisschen überfordert.

We arrived at the Venice Main Station Venezia Santa Lucia really early in the Morning and the first Views were justs breathtaking. Everything was so bright and the buidlings just so beautiful. And there were thousands of people.

Wir haben uns erst einmal ein Frühstück geholt. In der Bahnhofshalle, direkt gegenüber dem Ausgang gibt es ein kleines Café und das Croissant dort war einfach so unglaublich gut! Es war alles echt teuer, aber auch wirklich gut.

We first had a small Breakfast which we bought at a little Cafe just opposite the Trainstationentry. It was a bit expensive but really really good.

Danach kauften wir uns die Tickets für die Vaporetto, kleine Fähren, die einen von A nach B bringen. Da Venedig ja von Wasser umgeben ist gibt es in der Stadt weder Autos noch Bahnen. Weiter kommt man nur mit diesen kleinen Schiffen, Wassertaxi oder Gondeln. Und eines vorweg: die Fahrten kosten echt viel Geld. Leider weiß ich den genauen Preis nicht mehr. Die Fahrten sind echt spannend, es wollen unglaublich viele Menschen mitfahren und man wird extrem zusammen gepfercht und kann sich nirgends so recht festhalten. Trotzdem ist es ein tolles Gefühl mitzufahren, den Wind im Gesicht zu haben und all die schönen Gebäude auf einen wirken zu lassen.

If you want to travel around Venice,your only Option is to take the Vaporetto, little ferries that take you everywhere. Again, the tickets are really expensive, but its really nice to float past all the buildings. Its just mostly a tight squeeze, as many people want to take the ferries.

Wir haben uns ein Doppelzimmer im Hotel Albergo San Marco genommen, nur ein paar Schritte vom Markus Platz entfernt und ungefähr 10 Gehminuten von der Rialtobrücke. Obwohl das Hotel sehr zentral lag, war es überhaupt nicht teuer. Von der Haltestelle ging es durch einige kleine Gassen und überall gab es Restaurants, Boutiquen, Eisläden und Souvenirshops. Es war echt schön dort.

We took a doubleroom at the Albergo San Marco Hotel. Its situated around 10 Minutes from the Rialtobridge and just a few Minutes from the St. Mark's Sqaure. Although being so central, it wasn't really expensive. Before getting to the Hotel you have to walk through some Alleys and they were just so beautiful. Everywhere there are Ice Cream Shops, Restaurants and Souvenirshops.

Markus Platz / St. Mark’s Sqaure

Der Markusplatz ist wohl der bekannteste Platz in Venedig. Beweis dafür sind die Menschenmaßen die hier im Sommer angeströmt kommen. Die Tauben wissen das zu schätzen, da sie hier gefüttert werden (wer macht sowas??) sitzen sie überall am Platz.

Die Gebäude die man hier direkt sehen kann ist der Dogenpalast, Markusdom und Markusturm.

The St. Mark's Sqaure is the most well known Places in Venice. Next to the Dogenpalast, the Markusdom and Markustower you can find lots of Tourist and even more doves, due to people feeding them (honestly, whos doing that??)

Der Markusdom war das Staatsheiligtum von Venedig und ist heutzutage die Kathedrale eines Venezianischen Patriarchen. Ich finde die Fassade nicht wirklich schön, sie ist mir zu kitschig. Aber sie repräsentiert doch schon die Venezianische Kunst. Im Inneren kann man die Kirche besichtigen und auch auf eine kleinen Aussichtsbalkon.

The Markusdom is a Church in Venice. I did not really like the fassade, its just not my taste, but it does represent Venice Style. You can look at the Inner Rooms and also walk out on a platform.

Selbstverständlich kann man auch in den Palast rein und sich auch dort die pompösen Innenräume anschauen. Ebenfalls besichtigen kann man hier das Gefängnis, welches sich über zwei Gebäude erstreckt und durch die Seufzerbrücke verbunden ist. Denn Namen soll die Brücke den Gefangenen verdanken die dort das letzte mal das Sonnenlicht gesehen haben und traurig seufzten.

You can also visit the rooms in the Palace and admire the luxious and spacious interior, as well as the prison cells which stretch out on to buildings and are connected by the bridge of sighs. The bridge got its name from the criminals who sighed upon seeing the sun for the last time in a very long time.

Ein guter Tipp: wer in das Gebäude rein möchte sollte sich vorher im Internet schon Tickets besorgen, denn sonst steht man hier stundenlang in einer Schlange.

A little Tip: buy your entry tickets beforehand in the Internet or else you will stand a very long time in a cue!

Der Markusturm ist der Glockenturm des Markusdoms und das Symbol der Stadt. Ursprünglich diente die Turmspitze als Leuchtturm für Schiffe. Auch auf den Turm kann man rauf und hat einen herrlichen Ausblick über die Stadt.

The Markustower is the Belltower of the Kathedral and a symbol of the city. It used to be used as a Lighttower to the ships.

Ein paar Schritte weiter, rechts vom Dogenpalast, stößt man wieder aufs Wasser, der Anfang des Kanals. Hier kann man sich auf die Stufen setzen und den schönen Ausblick genießen und den Gondolieren beim arbeiten zusehen.

Man kann auch gut am Wasser lang spazieren. Überall gibt es auch kleine Cafes die auf ein kleines Getränk einladen.

Just a few steps to the right of the Palace you will be back at water, this is the beginning of the canal. Sit down on the steps and enjoy the view of the water and the Gondolas or enjoy a little Drink at the plenty Cafes situated right next to the water.

Rialto Brücke

Auch sie zählt zu den bekanntesten Bauwerken der Stadt. Sie führt über den Kanal Grande und beschert den Spaziergängern eine wunderschöne Aussicht über den Kanal.

The Rialto Bridge is another famous building in Venice. It is build over the Canal Grande and offers a beautiful view over the Canal.

Gondelfahrt / Gondola ride

Etwas was meine Mutter unbedingt machen wollten war eine Gondelfahrt. Das gehört ja auch irgendwie zu Venedig dazu oder? Aber eine Fahrt zu finden sie wirklich schwer und vor allem (wie alles in Venedig) teuer! An jeder Ecke spricht dich ein Gondoliere an ob du mit ihm fahren möchtest, wir haben uns dann für die Alilaguna Büros entschieden. Zusammen mit ziemlich vielen anderen Touristen führte sie uns dann zu einem Gondel Platz und einer nach dem anderen wurde auf eine Gondel gebracht. Ich kann euch sagen es ist eine echt wackelige Angelegenheit. Ich hatte die ganzen 50 Minuten echt Angst rauszufallen und habe mich demnach kaum bewegt. Unsere Gondolieri hat leider nicht wirklich dafür gesorgt das wir uns wohlfühlen. Er hat nicht gesprochen, hatte Kopfhörer im Ohr und hat irgendwann sogar SMS verschickt. Das fanden wir ziemlich traurig, für das Geld erwartet man etwas anderes und bei anderen Gondeln an denen wir vorbei fuhren war das ganz anders. Etwas anderes was dazu kam: das Wasser stinkt echt richtig heftig wenn man so nah an der Oberfläche ist. Das ist wirklich unangenehm. Die Fahrt an sich war schon recht schön, aber für das Geld absolut unnötig.

What my mom and I really wanted to do was a Gondola Ride. Thats just part of Venice dont you think? It was somewhat difficult to find a good Ride, there are so many People offering the rides and they are so expensive. We decided to book with Alilaguna. She took us and a great amount of other people down to some Gondolas and put us on one. It was really shaky and the whole 50 minutes I was afraid to fall down and tried not to move to much. Unfortunately our Guide did not really make sure that we are safe and welcome. He ignored us, listened to Music on his earphones and even texted on his phone. Not very nice, especially when paying so much. What is uncomfortable as well: the smell of the water. Its really bad in summer when no rain exchanges the water. Its really disgusting. The ride itself was nice, but I would not recommend it and not do it again.

Murano, Burano und Torcello Führung / Excursion

Meine Mama hatte nur gute Sachen über diese kleinen Inseln in der Nähe von Venedig gehört und wollte unbedingt hin. Also haben wir eine Bootsfahrt, wieder mit Alilaguna, gebucht und einen kleinen Tagesausflug gemacht.

Mit einem mittelgroßen Holzboot fuhren wir vom Hauptbahnhof los (Achtung, man kann auch beim Markusplatz abgeholt werden!!) mit dem ersten Ziel des Tages: die Insel Murano. Berühmt ist die Insel für ihre Glasbläserei und diese durften wir auch besichtigen. Dieses Handwerk erstaunt mich ja einfach immer wieder.

Danach ging es zur Insel Burano die für ihre Seide und ihre bunten Fischerhäuse bekannt ist. Diese Insel hat mir die Sprache verschlagen. Es war so so schön dort, nicht zu viele Menschen und alle waren nett. Die Eindrücke von dort waren einfach nur zauberhaft. Hier ging die Zeit leider viel zu schnell vorbei. Ich hätte mich gerne noch irgendwo hingesetzt und etwas gutes gegessen.

Als letztes ging es zur Torcello Insel. Dort kann man 2 sehr alte Kirchen anschauen (hier muss man extra Eintritt bezahlen und sich auch bedecken). Wir waren zu dieser Zeit schon echt fertig, es war wirklich extrem heiß, man sollte unbedingt genug Wasser und Sonnencreme mitbringen.

Ich würde in Zukunft nur einen Ausflug zur Burano Insel machen.

My Mom heard many good things about the three Islands Murano, Burano and Torcello and so we decided to book a Boattrip, again with Alilaguna. We were picked up near the Main station but they also pick up People at the St. Mark's Square.

The first stop was at Murano which is known for making Glas Ornaments and we got to see a little show. Its really amazing how they do it.

Afterwards we travelled to Burano, known for a Silk and colourful Fishinghouses. This little Island amazed me so much. It was beyond beautiful and the people were so nice. I really liked it there and wish we could have spend more time there.

Last was the Island of Torcello. There you can visit two really old Churches, but you have to pay Entry and put on a type of Abaya. By that time we were really exhausted because it was so hot. You should really bring enough water and sunscreen with you.

Today I would only plan a Trip to Burano.

Essen in Venedig / Food in Venice

Wer in Venedig essen möchte muss auch hier für viel Geld ausgeben. Wir waren nur einmal essen, aber ich muss sagen das es uns nicht wirklich geschmeckt hat. Dafür das es original Italienisch war… Zudem waren die Kellner auch echt nicht freundlich. Ansonsten bleiben einem nur kleine Imbisse, aber auch dort haben wir nicht so wirklich was gutes gefunden. Wir haben dann einfach eine Kleinigkeit beim Spar geholt.

Ein typisches Venezianisches Gebäck wurde uns empfohlen: die Kekse Bussolai. Die haben auch tatsächlich sehr gut geschmeckt. Das war wohl einer der besseren Tipps.

Wirklich wirklich UNSCHLAGBAR war jedoch das Eis!! Das war und ist das beste Eis das ich bisher gegessen habe. Es war einfach nur so unfassbar gut und ich hab gefühlt nur Eis gegessen. Das war wirklich das beste am Venedig Ausflug. Wirklich empfehlen kann ich den Eissalon Gelato Fantasy. Tolle Eissorten, gute Preise und nette Mitarbeiter.

If you want to eat out in Venice, be prepared to pay a lot of money. We only went into a Restaurant once and the food did not taste really good and the Waitors were really unfriendly. There are lots of fast food places, but also not very tasty. We rather opted for things from the local Supermarket.

Typical Venetian Biscuits are Bussolai and they did taste nice.

The very very best of all was the exceptionally good Ice Cream. Man, it was just so good. I still dream of it, best Ice Cream of my life. Especially that of the little Saloon Gelato Fantasy. Many choices, fair prices and friendly workers. Really good!
